Pounamu or Greenstone is the name for nephrite jade found in rivers in specific parts of the South Island of New Zealand.
It is an extremely tough stone that can be carved and smoothed into beautiful and lustrous pendants, tools and even weapons.
Pounamu plays a very important role in Māori culture. It is considered a taonga (treasure) and has very spiritual significance to the people of New Zealand, and those who wear it.
Our Pounamu /Greenstone jewellery is hand carved and we carefully select the pieces that we offer to our customers.
As Greenstone is a natural stone, there may be a slight variation in colour and grain of each piece. Our pendants are hand carved in New Zealand, therefore there may also be a slight variation in the size of the pendant (usually only a few millimetres) from piece to piece.
